For example, there are a lot of rose-colored ideas of what it means to be an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs may get to make their own schedules and not have a corporate contract committing them to a set time period. However, most of their time isn’t committed to themselves. In order to successfully run a business, an entrepreneur must consistently focus on their business. 

The group of U.S. representatives wants the president to sign an executive order to ban federal contractors from asking if potential job seekers have been convicted of crimes. The “box” in question is one that appears on federal hiring applications, asking job seekers if they have a criminal record. As part of an effort to reduce mass incarceration, many around the country have rallied for local governments and workplaces to “ban the box” from their hiring forms.

Interns, required to have at least a Bachelor’s degree and preferably a Master’s, are expected to work at least 40 hours a week for two to six months. All legal, travel and housing necessities are to be paid by the interns. If they want to be based out of the United States, it will be in New York City, the most expensive city in the U.S. and top 10 most expensive in the world. Medical insurance, which is required, must also be paid by the interns themselves. 

How you deal with that challenging situation is the key factor that employers try to control when accepting new interns. In an interview for an internship, your well-written resume and sterling GPA might not count as much as your personal skills. Employers know that internship jobs are not the glamorous job you were probably expecting to land. They also know that it takes character to not respond negatively when someone asks you to make 200 hundred copies of a booklet then realizes they gave you the wrong document only after you have completed the task.

After five years of nonstop bad news regarding black unemployment, the Obama administration was finally able to celebrate some good news last month, or so it seemed. In July African-American unemployment dipped to 12.6 percent, a small but significant change from June's 13.7 percent unemployment rate -- and substantially lower than the high of 16.5 percent that it reached in January 2010. But any celebration was likely short-lived.
